What Size Bin Do You Actually Need? Read This Before You Book.

The most common question we get is “what size bin do I need?” It’s a fair question — most people haven’t rented a bin before and have no idea how to picture 10 cubic yards in their head.

Here’s a plain-English breakdown to help you choose without overthinking it.

A 5-yard bin is our smallest option and it’s meant for heavy, dense material — think soil, concrete, red bricks, clean fill, or asphalt. It’s not ideal for light renovation junk because it fills up fast. If you’re doing a small landscaping job or cleaning out a garden bed, this is your bin. If you’re doing a home renovation, you’ll likely want to go up a size..

A 10-yard bin holds about 60 garbage bags worth of material — roughly two full pickup truck loads. For a basement cleanout, garage purge, or single-room renovation, this is usually enough. If you’re dealing with large furniture, multiple rooms, or years of accumulated junk, the 14-yard gives you more breathing room.

The 14-yard is our most popular residential bin and for good reason. It’s the sweet spot for most homeowners doing a renovation. Flooring removal, drywall, old cabinets, appliances, furniture — it all fits. It holds about 90 garbage bags worth of material. If you’re doing a full kitchen or bathroom reno (or both), this is almost always the right call.

The 20-yard bin is where contractors start and where serious home renovators finish. If you’re gutting an entire floor of your home, tackling a full addition project, or running a mid-size construction site, this is the right bin. It holds about 120 garbage bags of material and comes with 3 tonnes of weight included.

The 40-yard is our largest bin and it’s built for big commercial jobs, full building cleanouts, and major demolition projects. If you’re a contractor managing a large job site or property manager clearing out a full building, this is what you need. It holds about 240 garbage bags of debris and includes 5 tonnes in the flat rate.

Great question — and an important one. Heavy materials like concrete, soil, and bricks need a dedicated bin because they weigh a lot more per volume than regular garbage. We offer flat-rate bins specifically for those materials so you’re not paying extra weight charges. If you mix concrete with regular renovation debris, the weight adds up fast and costs more. When in doubt, ask us — we’ll make sure you’re in the right bin.

What Can Go in a Rental Bin — and What Can't?

One of the most common things people worry about is putting the wrong stuff in the bin. Here’s a clear breakdown so you don’t have to guess.

What You CAN Put in the Bin:

• Household junk and furniture • Renovation debris (drywall, wood, trim, flooring) • Roofing shingles • Windows and doors • Mattresses and box springs • Appliances (fridges, stoves, washers — ask us first) • General construction waste • Metal and scrap • Cardboard and packaging • Soil, concrete, bricks, and asphalt (heavy material bins only) • Yard waste and brush (ask us about availability)

What You CANNOT Put in the Bin:

• Paint, stains, or solvents • Chemicals or cleaning products • Propane tanks (full or empty) • Car batteries or household batteries Tires • Electronics (TVs, computers, monitors) • Medical or biohazard waste • Asbestos or hazardous building materials Flammable liquids

Not sure about something specific? Just ask. We’d rather take 30 seconds to answer your question than have you stuck at the bin wondering.

Call or text us at 647-779-8385 and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Why Homeowners and Contractors in Durham Region Keep Coming Back

Pricing That's Honest From the Start

When you get a quote from us, that's your price. We don't add fuel surcharges, disposal "processing fees," or any of the other line items that show up on other companies' bills. Flat rate means flat rate. The only extras are extra days ($25/day) or extra weight above the included tonnage — and we tell you that upfront.

Same-Day Delivery Means Same Day

We don't use "same-day" as a marketing line and then show up three days later. If we confirm same-day delivery, the bin is there same day. Our yard is in Pickering, which puts us close to all our service areas — short drive, reliable timing.

Bin Rental Questions — Answered in Plain English

Yes — drywall is one of the most common things people put in rental bins. It goes in your standard residential bin along with other renovation debris like wood, flooring, trim, and old cabinets.

Just don’t mix drywall with heavy materials like concrete or soil — those need their own bin due to weight.

How much does a bin rental cost in Durham Region?

Bin rentals in Durham Region start at $299 for a 5-yard bin and go up to $995 for a 40-yard bin. All prices include a 7-day rental period. If you need extra time, it’s $25 per day. If your load exceeds the included weight, it’s $130 per additional tonne. There are no fuel surcharges or hidden fees — what you’re quoted is what you pay.

Every rental includes 7 days. If your project runs longer, just let us know — we charge $25 per extra day and we’re flexible about it. We understand that renovations don’t always finish on schedule. Just give us a heads up before the 7 days are up and we’ll extend your rental without any hassle.

If the bin is going on your private driveway, you typically don’t need a permit in any of our service areas. If the bin needs to go on a public road, boulevard, or sidewalk, most municipalities in Durham Region require a road occupancy permit. Requirements vary by city. We can help you figure out what’s needed for your specific address — just ask when you book.

Just don’t mix drywall with heavy materials like concrete or soil — those need their own bin due to weight.

Yes. Mattresses, box springs, couches, chairs, dressers, tables — all of it is accepted in our standard residential bins. If you’re doing a full home cleanout and have a lot of large furniture, the 14-yard or 20-yard bin gives you the room you need.

No — heavy materials like concrete, soil, clean fill, red bricks, and asphalt go in a separate heavy-material bin. This is because they weigh significantly more per volume than regular garbage, which affects how much the truck can legally haul. We offer flat-rate bins specifically for these materials starting at $350, so it’s simple and affordable.

For safety and transportation reasons, bins must not be loaded above the rim. We can’t legally haul an overfilled bin. If your bin is overfilled when we arrive for pickup, we’ll ask you to remove the excess before we can take it. If you think you’re going to run out of room, call us — we can often arrange an early swap or an additional bin.
